The Executive Director of TrustAfrica seized the opportunity, provided by the cheque presentation ceremony, to thank the government of Senegal for its welcome and support to the TrustAfrica Foundation since its inception. Dr. Sall highlighted the government’s role in the organization of the Pan-African Summit on Higher Education, which was organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation in partnership with TrustAfrica and other partners in March 2015.
As a philanthropic foundation and a think-tank, TrustAfrica intends to offer its experience and expertise to the African continent in the fight against the pandemic. In this regard, TrustAfrica has already set up a Solidarity Fund for Africa in response to COVID-19 and in partnership with other pan-African organizations. TrustAfrica has also launched a project to support marginalized and vulnerable communities, in the belief that each person will be truly protected from the pandemic only when everyone else is. The Foundation has therefore appealed to both international organizations and people of goodwill to support Africa during this crisis. Resources collected in this regard will be used to support the Emergency Response Teams deployed in different countries and in very vulnerable communities. The initiator leaves contributors with the choice of sending their contributions directly to the country (or countries) they choose to support.
The cheque presentation ceremony took place at the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Cooperation in Dakar. Both parties reaffirmed their shared determination to promote a united and homogenous Africa in the face of this pandemic, which they consider a global threat. They pledged to continue this promotion with any group or person willing to do so.
