TrustAfrica has enlisted a small number of consultants who are working in various capacities to advance our mission.

Omano Edigheji, Consultant, Higher Education ProgramOmano.gif
Dr. Edigheji is in charge of managing the Higher Education Program in four countries, Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania and Uganda. Previous to his current position, Dr Edigheji was a Research Director in the Policy Analysis Unit of the Human Sciences Research Council, South Africa and was Research Manager at the Johannesburg based policy think-tank, Centre for Policy Studies.  Renowned for his scholarly and policy work on “state and development,” he has published extensively, including his books, Governance in the New South Africa: The Challenges of Globalization (co-editor, University of Cape Town Press, 2003); and Constructing a Democratic Developmental State in South Africa: Potentials and Challenges (ed.) HSRC Press, 2010. He has made more than 100 presentations to policy-makers and academics across the globe.  Dr Edigheji has lectured at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg and the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Port Elizabeth. He holds a PhD in Political Science with specialization in the political economy of development, with a focus on developing countries from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway.

Saki MafundikwaSaki Mafundikwa, Design Consultant
Mr. Mafundikwa has worked with TrustAfrica since April 2006. He holds a B.A. in fine arts and telecommunications from Indiana University as well as an M.F.A. in graphic design from Yale University, where he graduated in 1985. He worked for several years in New York City before returning home to found the Zimbabwe Institute of Vigital Arts (ZIVA) in 1999, a self-funded venture that is the country’s first college for graphic design and new media. Mr. Mafundikwa is also the author of Afrikan Alphabets, a pioneering book on African typography, a subject he speaks about at conferences around the world. He also writes for numerous design publications and magazines, primarily on design education in Africa and on African alphabets. To advance his dream of seeing the evolution of an African design aesthetic, he is currently working on plans to establish an Afrikan Design School and Research Centre. 

Halima MahomedHalima Mahomed, Philanthropy Program Advisor
Halima Mahomed joined us in April 2012 as our Philanthropy Program Advisor. Based in Johannesburg, Halima is focusing on developing knowledge building, outreach and advocacy on African philanthropy and advancing work on social justice philanthropy in Africa. She has previously worked at the Ford Foundation Office for Southern Africa, at the EDGE Institute, and as a long-term consultant to the Ford Foundation and the Global Fund for Community Foundations. She is an independent consultant and also serves on the Philanthropy for Social Justice and Peace Working Group and the Alliance magazine editorial board. She holds a Masters Degree in Development Studies, with distinction, from the University of the Witwatersrand -- with a research focus on social justice philanthropy in South Africa.

Praveen PrasadPraveen Prasad, Development Consultant
Ms. Prasad, a specialist in conflict/post-conflict program management with field experience in 15 African countries, joined us in March 2010 as a development consultant. Now based in New York, she is working to build a broad constituency for TrustAfrica’s individual giving program. Ms. Prasad previously served as the U.S. Director for Orphan Support Africa and, while based in Africa, directed programs in Sudan, Darfur, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Chad for Adventist Development and Relief Agency International and other international nonprofit organizations. She holds a Master’s degree in international relations and political science from the University of Sydney, Australia, and speaks fluent English, Hindi, Nepalese, and Arabic.
