TrustAfrica works with partner organizations in all five subregions of Africa and the diaspora. However, we do not fund local or national initiatives, with the exception of a few very small grants for capacity building. Instead, we focus on regional partnerships that promote cooperation across borders and advance regional solutions.

Central Africa Eastern Africa and the Horn North Africa Southern Africa West Africa Africa-wide African Diaspora Eastern Africa and the Horn One of the organizations we fund in Eastern Africa has established itself as a vital source of technical assistance for the African Union and other governmental bodies that are grappling with such regional integration initiatives as the peer review mechanism for democratic performance. Another one of our partners has built a coalition of nongovernmental organizations that persuaded the union to adopt a far-reaching protocol on women in situations of conflict and to expand the role of women within its own structures. Other grants support research on notions of East African identity among cross-border groups — such as refugees, students, and migrant traders — and efforts to gain legal recognition for the concept of East African citizenship.
