Conference Announcements (3)

In July 2010, more than 600 scholars from around the world gathered at Kadir Has University in Istanbul to exchange ideas and research findings on civil society. The occasion was the 9th international conference of the International Society for Third-Sector Research (ISTR), whose theme this year was “Facing Crises: Challenges and Opportunities Confronting the Third Sector and Civil Society.”

TrustAfrica is part of a broad-based initiative designed to establish an electronic clearinghouse for sharing knowledge, experiences, and best practices throughout Africa and to support capacity building and partnerships among African organizations. Our partners in this effort are the Open Society Initiative, UNESCO, IDRC, the Panos Institute, and the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA).

In collaboration with the Institute for Global Dialogue, we recently brought together 10 of our partner organizations for a convening on economic governance in Africa. Held in Pretoria, South Africa, on March 29–30, 2010, the gathering provided an opportunity for this community of experts to discuss a scoping study about the field and to strengthen the proposals they have submitted to TrustAfrica through informal peer review. Participants also identified ways to collaborate across thematic and regional areas and kept abreast of developments in other regions.
