TrustAfrica’s Africa Youth Program Manager Nekesa Wamalwa, moderated this great panel on:
“Empowering Youth for Sustainable Futures: Intergenerational Responsibility and Skills for a Just Transition”. The event was held on Friday- 20 Sept 2024 inside UN Headquarters.
“With young people at the heart of the discussion, this event brought partners together to explore what changes are needed in education and across society to build the green skills and green jobs to deliver a just and sustainable transition.
Jointly organised by UNEP, CYMG and the Government of Cyprus, Portugal, in collaboration with ILO and UNICEF, this side-event hosted an intergenerational dialogue between youth, UN leaders, Government ministers and experts in green skills and education. It explored the intersection of green jobs, education and sustainable lifestyles, highlighting how these elements can converge to create a just and equitable future for all”.
The TrustAfrica team also held strategic meetings with financial institutions and other stakeholders and attended events hosted by our partners, such as the Open Society Foundations high level dialogue on reparations: “The World to Be Imagined: Reparative Futures and Afro-Diplomacy,” with distinguished speakers such as President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana, Prime Minister Mia Mottley of Barbados, and Binaifer Nworojee, President of the Open Society Foundations. Another important event at which the TrustAfrica ED and Programs Director were present was a School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) of the University of London, panel discussion held at the Ruben Museum on the ‘reform of the global political and economic architecture’, with Lord Mark Malloch-Brown, former Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Fahad Al-Sulaiti, CEO of Education Above All, and Professor Adam Habib, Vice Chancellor/Director of SOAS as the main speakers, and Professor Stephen Chan as the facilitator.
