Jasmine Mickens to Represent TrustAfrica at First-Ever Commonwealth Games Conference on Reparative Justice
TrustAfrica is pleased to announce that Jasmine Mickens, Director of the Reparative Justice Programme, will participate in the international conference “Levelling the Field: From History to Action”, to be held on 31 July 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland. Convened by the Centre for Sport and Human Rights (CSHR), Commonwealth Sport, and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the conference represents a landmark moment in global conversations on reparative justice. Significantly, the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games are the first global sporting event to formally feature discussions on reparative justice, highlighting the growing recognition of sport as a powerful space for confronting historical injustices and advancing equity, healing, and social transformation.
As part of Session 4, Jasmine Mickens will
speak about, “Levelling the Field: From History to Action,” exploring the creation of new systems and pathways for meaningful change. Drawing on TrustAfrica’s work to advance reparative justice across Africa and its global diaspora , she will share insights the history, the business , and the role of sports as a platform to address the enduring legacies of slavery, colonialism, and racial injustice. Her intervention will emphasize the importance of moving beyond acknowledgment toward concrete action, showcasing how communities, institutions, and movements can work together to build a future grounded in justice, repair, and reconciliation. Through her participation, TrustAfrica will bring African perspectives and experiences to a timely global conversation on the transformative potential of sport in advancing reparative justice.
