Theme: AU and the New Scramble for Africa: Conflict, Reparations and Resource Sovereignty

TrustAfrica is proud to co-organize the 3rd African Union Studies Annual Symposium, a continental gathering that brings together scholars, policymakers, activists, and thought leaders to critically engage with the African Union’s role in shaping the continent’s future.
This year’s theme — “AU and the New Scramble for Africa: Conflict, Reparations and Resource Sovereignty” — invites deep reflection on the historical and contemporary dynamics of external interests in Africa, the ongoing struggles for justice and reparations, and the urgent need to assert sovereignty over Africa’s vast natural resources.
The symposium is co-hosted by the Department of Politics and International Relations and the Institute for Pan-African Thought and Conversation (IPATC) at the University of Johannesburg, in partnership with TrustAfrica.
