Upholding Social Justice for a Just World of Work

24 janvier 2023

On this International Labour Day, TrustAfrica commends the enduring efforts of workers all over the world, who continue to strive fervently for improved working conditions amidst a changing climate. Workers are the glue that holds institutions, companies, societies and communities together and on this day TrustAfrica calls for social justice, fairness and equity in the world of work.

The rights of workers and protection of labor movements need to be enhanced and safeguarded. TrustAfrica calls for the strengthening of social dialogue mechanisms to ensure that the agency, voice and participation of workers are guaranteed.

The world of work today is presenting extreme challenges exacerbated by rising cost of living, displacements and destruction caused by floods and droughts, gender-based violence and adverse economic conditions. This calls for radical changes in safeguarding policies that protect men and women from violence with urgent calls for Governments to ratify ILO Convention 190; transforming global value chains by providing occupation health and safety; reforming labour laws to achieve fair wages and upholding the right to be represented.

Social justice is no longer a side issue but an integral part in ensuring fair and sustainable growth and development. In this regard, all hands must be on deck to promote a  work culture based on respect for dignity of the human being.
