It is with profound sadness that the African Network for the Fight Against Discrimination Based on Ancestry, Labor, and Contemporary Forms of Slavery (ANDS), headquartered at TrustAfrica, has learned of the passing of Boubacar Messaoud, founding president of SOS Slaves and an iconic figure in the struggle for human rights in Mauritania.
Trained as an architect, he was above all the architect of a national consciousness against injustice. Through his exceptional courage and peaceful determination, he devoted his life to breaking the chains of slavery and working toward a Mauritania that is equitable, fraternal, and reconciled with itself.
His voice, bearer of hope for the voiceless, will resonate eternally. His legacy remains a compass for all who defend the inalienable value of every human being.
To his family, his fellow fighters at SOS Slaves, and the entire Mauritanian people, we extend our most heartfelt condolences.
May his soul rest in peace, and may his struggle inspire future generations.
