COVID-19 has not disappeared, and in Africa the third wave is wreaking havoc on the most vulnerable communities. The health and economic impact of COVID-19 has plunged millions of Africans deeper into poverty. On the 1st of July 2021, the Africa CDC director said “The African continent has had 5.5 million confirmed COVID-19 infections and has seen a “remarkable” 23% increase in deaths over the past week.” Community Immunity is a collaborative initiative between African Philanthropy Network (APN), Southern Africa Trust (SAT) TrustAfrica to provide quick impact support to bring immediate relief to people living at the margins of society while supporting policy initiatives to provide long term solutions. Some examples of groups this initiative will serve include daily wage earners, micro-business owners and entrepreneurs, miners, farmers, migrant workers, women, youth. Applications to receive these small grants can be channeled by contacting grants@trustafrica.org. If you want to donate to this initiative, check out the donation portal on the Community Immunity webpage here.
