At TrustAfrica, we are saddened beyond words by the death of Professor Amadou Mahtar Mbow, former Director General of UNESCO, and the first African to head a major UN institution. He passed away in the morning of Tuesday 24th September 2024 at the age of 103. Senegal, Africa and the world have lost a truly great person. His lasting legacy includes the General History of Africa (nine volumes), the McBride Report snd all the work on the New International Information Order; and imense contributions to the liberation of peoples around the world. More recently, he chaired Senegal’s Assises nationales (national dialogue) and, later, the Commission on the reform of Senegal’s national institutions. In 2021, TrustAfrica was among the institutions and personalities who celebrated his centenary. He was a highly engaged person, always ready to provide advice and support to African scholars.
May he rest in peace and find a place in paradise. May his legacy of service to God and humanity continue to serve as a shining light to current and future generations.
