As the second Africa Climate Summit convenes leaders, policymakers, and civil society in a united call for bold climate solutions, TrustAfrica proudly joins the movement to shape a just, equitable, and sustainable future for our continent.
Africa contributes the least to global emissions yet bears the brunt of climate change. Climate justice must be at the heart of every decision we make. Here’s what we believe is needed to accelerate climate action and advance justice:
🔹 Center African Voices: Local communities, especially youth, women, and Indigenous groups, must have a seat at the decision-making table. Solutions must be grounded in local knowledge and realities.
🔹 Reform Climate Finance: Climate funding must be accessible, transparent, and responsive to Africa’s priorities. Debt traps disguised as climate aid must end.
🔹 Invest in Just Transitions: Support the shift from extractive economies to regenerative models. This means investing in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and green jobs—without leaving anyone behind.
🔹 Hold Polluters Accountable: Historical emitters must pay their fair share through reparative climate finance, not charity. Justice means responsibility.
🔹 Protect Democratic Space: Civic actors and environmental defenders play a vital role in shaping climate solutions. We must safeguard the space for civil society to act, advocate, and mobilize.
