TrustAfrica and its partners are proud to participate in the United Nations Summit of the Future, a pivotal event that will shape the course of global development and cooperation. Together with our partners, we are committed to ensuring that African voices are heard and that the continent’s perspectives are integrated into the Summit’s outcomes.
As part of our engagement, TrustAfrica is co-organizing an African Civil Society Dialogue on the Summit of the Future Pact for the Future. This critical platform will bring together civil society organizations, youth leaders, and experts to discuss key issues, around sustainable development and Financing for Development in particular, exploring innovative solutions to address Africa’s development challenges and ensure equitable access to resources. There is equally going to be discussion around International Peace and Security where Strengthening global governance and promoting peace and security in Africa, with a focus on youth leadership and citizen engagement will be unpacked. Science, Technology, and Innovation won’t be left out as it will entail discussions about leveraging digital cooperation and innovation to drive Africa’s economic growth and social progress. The event will equally delve into the aspects of Youth and Future Generations where empowering young Africans to take ownership of their future and shape the continent’s development trajectory will be highlighted as well as Transforming Global Governance, where advocating for a more inclusive and equitable global governance system that prioritizes African perspectives and interests will be discussed.
TrustAfrica’s team will be actively engaged in various events and meetings throughout the Summit, as we will have Coumba Toure, our Board Chair, speaking on September 19th at the “Let Arts Speak the Future” event with ECOSOC and the artists, and will also attend the event co-organized with AGI and APRM; Briggs Bomba our Programmes Director who will be speaking at the “Let Arts Speak the Future” event with ECOSOC, Oxfam, and the artists on September 19th, and will equally be part of the Africa Governance Institute (AGI), TrustAfrica and the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM)’s event under the theme: Governance Challenges in Africa: Are We Winning the Battle? on September 20th, as well as the Open Society Foundation event on September 24th.
Dr Tawanda Mutasah, Vice President, Oxfam America and TrustAfrica’s Board of Directors member will address a keynote speech on Saturday afternoon, 21 September, during the plenary session on “Dreaming of a new equitable Global Governance that works for Africa.
Dr Ebrima Sall will speak both on September 20th; at the Let Arts Speak the future event hosted by ECOSOC and Oxfam, and at the Africa Governance Institute (AGI), TrustAfrica and the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM)’s event under the theme: Governance Challenges in Africa: Are We Winning the Battle? on September 20th, as well as the Open Society Foundation event on September 24th.
Our Africa Youth Panel Initiative Programme Manager, Nekesa Wamalwa is the honored invitee of UNEP, to moderate a high-level panel titled “Empowering Youth for Sustainable Futures: Intergenerational Responsibility and Skills for a Just Transition.”This session will feature discussions with representatives from various governments and stakeholders,
including the ILO, UNICEF, Green Jobs for Youth Pact, Children and Youth Major Group to UNEP, the governments of Cyprus and Portugal, as well as Qatar. She will also speak at the “Let Arts Speak the Future” event.
Issa Diouf, our finance manager and Ogo Chukwudi our Programmes Officer at TrustAfrica, will hold meetings with financial institutions and attend the Africa Governance Institute (AGI), TrustAfrica and the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM)’s event under the theme: Governance Challenges in Africa: Are We Winning the Battle? on September 20th.
TrustAfrica is equally an honored guest at “The World to Be Imagined: Reparative Futures and Afro-Diplomacy,” another side event of the United Nations Summit of the Future, hosted by H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana, Hon. Mia Amor Mottley, Prime Minister of the Republic of Barbados, and Binaifer Nowrojee, President of the Open Society Foundations. This event, taking place on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, promises to be a thought-provoking discussion on reparative futures and Afro-diplomacy. We look forward to engaging with esteemed leaders and experts to explore innovative solutions for the progress of Africa. Alongside these events, TrustAfrica will hold informal meetings with other Institutions to discuss the advancing of the African cause.
