We were pleased to visit the University of Cabo Verde in Praia during our All-Staff Retreat from 6–8 July 2026. The visit offered a meaningful opportunity to engage with the university leadership on shared priorities around research, knowledge production, and African-led development.
Our discussions at the University were especially valuable because they opened space to explore stronger collaboration in areas that matter deeply to TrustAfrica, including the relaunch of the Amílcar Cabral Chair, international research, and academic mobility. We also appreciated the university’s commitment to building partnerships that connect higher education more closely to the realities and aspirations of the continent.
The retreat also allowed us to meet with national leaders and policymakers, including His Excellency Pedro Pires, former President of the Republic of Cabo Verde, and His Excellency Víctor Borges, former Minister of Foreign Affairs. Their reflections enriched our conversations on democracy, development, regional cooperation, immigration, and youth / NextGen leadership.
We thank the University of Cabo Verde for its warm welcome and thoughtful exchange, as well as all those who contributed to making the retreat a productive and inspiring experience.
