TrustAfrica Honors Liberian Nobel Laureates at Gala Event

TrustAfrica honored Nobel Laureates President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Leymah Gbowee in a celebratory dinner in Monrovia, Liberia on the eve of their departure to Oslo.The dinner was held at the Monrovia City Hall on Monday, December 5, 2011. More than 150 guests attended, including the Vice-President of Liberia, other government representatives, members of the judiciary, Ambassadors from the United States and Sierra Leone, members of civil society and many others.

The event featured speeches from TrustAfrica’s Executive Director, Akwasi Aidoo and its Project Manager for the Liberian Civil Society Initiatve, ezekiel Pajibo, as well as speeches by both the President and Mrs. Gbowee. In her speech, President Johnson Sirleaf stated “Thank You TrustAfrica! There can be no better commendation than when you receive it from your own.” Guests were also treated to a short documentary about the two extraordinary women and how the announcement of theiir award had affected their fellow Liberians.
