From November 17 to 19, 2025, TrustAfrica participated in the ECOWAS Regional Consultation on Women and Youth Political Participation and Leadership in the Face of Legislative Reforms in West Africa, held in Saly Portudal, Senegal.
This high-level gathering brought together ECOWAS internal experts, policymakers, civil society organizations, and regional specialists to discuss strategies for strengthening the political participation and leadership of women and youth across West Africa, particularly in the context of ongoing legislative reforms.
One of the major outcomes of the consultation was the creation of a Scientific Committee to provide technical guidance and ensure evidence-based recommendations for future actions. TrustAfrica was honored to be nominated as a member of this committee, reinforcing our commitment to advancing gender equality and youth empowerment in governance.
The discussions emphasized:
The urgent need for legislative reforms that guarantee gender parity and youth inclusion.
Building sustainable advocacy and capacity-building initiatives to empower women and young leaders.
Collaborative efforts among regional actors, including ECOWAS experts, to promote inclusive governance.
As part of the Scientific Committee, TrustAfrica will work closely with ECOWAS and other stakeholders to develop actionable frameworks that drive meaningful change across member states.
